American Bank initially appealed to me because of the rate, but I stayed with them because of the customer service I received from my loan officer, Lauren Shapiro. Lauren was not the first person to contact me after I submitted my LendingTree request, but she was the nicest and most patient of all the people who did. She asked all the right questions to figure out what I needed and guided me through the entire process from beginning to end. Other people from other lenders tried to take my business away, but I knew I wouldn't have the same amount of trust in them as I already had in Lauren. I highly recommend American Bank for their mortgage lending expertise, rates, and superior customer service.

I felt the service I received from the lender Brandon Dunn was good. I thought the closing costs exceeded what they would have been if I had used a local service. I saw local advertisements at the same bank that will have my loan with no closing costs. I was not happy with the appraisal of my home. The appraiser asked me what amount the lender and I had discussed-I couldn't remember what was discussed so I gave him a number and that's exactly what he put down. The comparables were all over the place.

- Positives: Very fast response from several lenders after online inquiry was submitted. Phone etiquette of different callers was professional and generally friendly. Rates quoted were good. Online loan management was available with most or all of the lenders. - Negatives: Received WAY too many calls. No fewer than 25 calls came to my home in the first 2 days, and the calls continued well beyond that number during the first week or two after the inquiry. Also, some companies that called were "middle men" and not the actual lenders. They will handle the loan and closing, and then sell your loan immediately to another company that you have never dealt with (and may not be associated with Lending Tree). Therefore, you can't negotiate certain terms or have any contact with a person from the company you'll actually end up with. Closing costs were much higher than the quotes I received from local banks in my area. - Summary: There seemed to be an even balance of negatives and positives; the negatives are definitely things that should be easy for Lending Tree to fix. Overall, the experience was fair to good, and I ended up with a better rate than if I had gone with a local bank in my area (midwest)

My single point of contact was excellent. He walked me through the process step by step. I never felt alone. He handled all my problems and helped me get to settlement. Hank was the perfect single point of contact. His Customer Service and product knowledge was hands down, the best.
