  • Get on the move Between academic studies, national rankings and health and fitness magazines, the consensus is in: Denver is one of America’s fittest cities. It’s not hard to see why. One report shows that 86 percent of Denver residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park. Bicycling is a way of life. And there are dog parks, golf courses, swimming pools and tennis courts galore.
  • Be amazed by what you see Beauty is never fleeting in Denver — it’s everywhere! The city sits near the base of the Rocky Mountains. Roxborough State Park, replete with red sandstone formations and wildlife, is just a short drive away. If you’re looking for an adventure, hike Mount Evans, zip line through the mountains or get a tour of the city’s foothills.
  • Show your team spirit Professional sports are big here, and so is team pride. Denver is one of the few U.S. cities with teams in four major sports — the Denver Broncos (football), Denver Nuggets (basketball), Colorado Rockies (baseball) and Colorado Avalanche (ice hockey).
  • Explore the arts The Denver art scene is undergoing a boom, and has transformed the city from a cultural wasteland to an artistic haven. Find what you like at any of the city’s art galleries. Browse the renowned Museum of Contemporary Art. Take in a show at the Denver Center Theatre Company. Or, shout, jump and dance at the Red Rock Amphitheater or any one of the city’s live music venues.
  • Soak in the western sun Although its winters can be snowy, Denver, overall, is a pretty sunny city. It sees about 70 percent sunshine in a given year, and experiences an average 115 clear days when clouds in the sky are sparse. To put that in perspective, you’ll get more vitamin D here in the Mile High City than in Orlando.
  • Hit the slopes Skiing is a regional pastime in Denver. The city is just an hour’s drive away from resorts at Echo Mountain, Eldora Mountain and Loveland. Travel a little farther, and you can enjoy a ski getaway at luxurious resorts in Vail, Breckenridge or Aspen.
  • Satisfy your appetite for beer If you love craft beer, you’ll love Colorado. As of 2017, the state had 348 breweries, the second most of any state in the nation. Denver itself has 148 of them. You may need a map to find ‘em all but you can sure have fun trying. The city also hosts the Great American Beer Festival, which showcases up to 4,000 beers from hundreds of breweries around the country.
  • Stay at the head of the class Colorado’s schools have some of the highest test and college readiness scores in the country. Throw its colleges and universities into the mix, and it’s clear why the state was ranked in the top 10 of U.S. News & World Report’s best states for higher education. Denver’s Regis University and the University of Denver have both been listed among the top colleges in the nation.
