Pay less to live
Compared to the rest of the country (and the rest of Florida), Jacksonville is a relatively inexpensive place to live. Median housing prices in 2017 were about $184,000, well below the national median price of $222,000. And the average rental price is $984, far below the national average of $1,405.
Go on a quick vacation
Jacksonville is within driving distance of some of the country’s most popular vacation destinations. Orlando is a two-hour drive away; Daytona Beach is even closer than that. St. Augustine is a 45-minute jaunt south on Interstate 95 and, if you’re up for a road trip, Miami is just a five-hour trip along the coast.
Get in touch with nature
If beaches aren’t your thing, no worries. You’ll find tons of parks, trails and outdoor recreational activities, such as the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve or the Castaway Island Preserve. Like lions and tigers? You’ll find plenty at the Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary.
Bask in the sun
If you hate freezing rain and feet of snow, then you’ll love Jacksonville weather. The winters are mild and even fall can feel like summer. Because the city’s tucked in Florida’s northeast corner, it doesn’t often get hit with hurricanes — so, that’s a plus!
