Have you ever been sitting in an airport waiting for your flight to board only to find out that it has been delayed? It is one of the worst things about traveling. The idea of sitting in an uncomfortable airport seat for an extended period doesn't excite many people.

It's too bad that airport lounges with their comfy plush seating, free food and drinks are so expensive and exclusive to get into. Or are they?

That is actually far from the truth, because airport lounges are very accessible to just about anyone. All you need to do is hold the right credit card and you're in. Here are a few of our favorite credit cards with airport lounge access as one of their benefits.

The Platinum Card® From American Express

The Platinum Card® from American Express is a great card for travelers because it gives cardholders access to four different groups of lounges. First you will receive entry into all the American Express Centurion lounges throughout the United States. You will also have access to Delta SkyClub lounges, as long as you are flying Delta Airlines. Last, you will receive a free membership to both Priority Club and Airspace Lounges. The value of these easily outweighs the $450 annual fee that comes with the Platinum Card®.

In additional to lounge access, the Platinum Card® also offers a $200 annual airline credit and a $100 credit towards the application fee for Global Entry (or $85 for TSA PreCheck). In addition, you will also receive gold status with both Starwood Preferred Guest and Hilton HHonors loyalty programs.

Right now the sign up bonus is 40,000 American Express Membership Reward points after spending $3,000 in the first three months.

Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite MasterCard®

The Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite MasterCard® gives cardholders (plus their immediate family or up to two guests) access to American Airlines Admiral Club lounges. Other perks to this card include earning 10,000 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQM) after you spend $40,000 within a calendar year. You will also receive your first checked bag for free as well as priority boarding and a 25 percent savings on in-flight purchases.

Right now the sign up bonus is 50,000 American AAdvantage miles after spending $5,000 in the first three months. It also has an annual fee of $450.

Citi Prestige®

Another option is the Citi Prestige® card. With this card, you will receive access to American Airlines Admirals clubs for yourself, your immediate family, or up to two travel companions. You will also receive a free Priority Club membership, which will give you lounge access all over the world.

Other benefits to this card include a $250 Air Travel credit that can be used on most flight expenses like baggage fees, upgrades and even airline tickets. You will also receive three free rounds of golf through the Citi Prestige Golf Portal. Finally, you will receive a $100 credit when you apply for either Global Entry or TSA PreCheck.

Right now the sign up bonus for the Citi Prestige® card is 50,000 Citi ThankYou points after you spend $3,000 within the first three months of opening your account. There is a $450 annual fee associated with this card.

United MileagePlus® Club Card from Chase

United MileagePlus® Club cardholders, their immediate family, or up to two travel companions will receive free access to any United Club. Unlike other cards, you do not need to be flying United Airlines to use this benefit.

Other benefits of this card include two free checked bags, priority check-in, boarding, and security. You will also receive platinum status within the Hyatt Gold Passport loyalty program.

This card comes with a $450 annual fee and has a sign up bonus of a $100 statement credit after making your first purchase.

Ritz-Carlton Rewards® Card from Chase

When talking about credit cards that offer airport lounge access, the last card that you might expect on the list is a hotel branded card. However, the Ritz-Carlton Rewards® card, the last of our favorite credit cards with airport lounge access, is a great option for any traveler. With this card, you will be given access to any Lounge Club worldwide. Lounge Clubs are not affiliated with any one airline, which means you can be flying on any airline to take advantage.

Another benefit of this card is that you will receive a $300 annual travel credit that can be used on baggage fees, upgrades, Global Entry and more. You will also receive a $100 hotel credit when you pay for two or more nights at any Ritz-Carlton hotel. Plus you will receive three free club level room upgrades each year. If those features are not enough, you will receive a 10 percent bonus on all points earned throughout the year.

This sign up bonus for new cardholders is two free nights at any category 1-4 Ritz-Carlton property after spending $4,000 within the first three months. The Ritz-Carlton Rewards® card has a $450 annual fee.
