Compare it to the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®
If you want an American Airlines card that’s more robust than the American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp℠ Card, a good one to consider is the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®. It has more perks and benefits than the American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp℠ Card, but it also comes with an annual fee of $99, waived for first 12 months. However, after making just two round-trip flights and checking a free bag, the money you save on checked baggage costs covers the card’s annual fee.
The Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® has a better new cardmember sign-up bonus: Earn 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after $2,500 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.
Cardmembers earn 2 AAdvantage® miles for every $1 spent at gas stations, restaurants, and on eligible American Airlines purchases. It covers both the dining and gas categories, which is better than the American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp℠ Card. You and up to four companions traveling on the same reservation get a free checked bag on U.S.-based American Airlines flights. But you don’t get airport lounge access or priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling.
You also receive a $125 American Airlines flight discount after spending at least $20,000 during your card year and you renew your card.
