Who is the Citi Prestige® Credit Card best for?

We should note, the Citi Prestige® Credit Card is no longer open to new applicants. However, if you are an existing cardholder, you can continue to earn an accelerated rewards rate on your travel and restaurant purchases, as well as enjoy access to the card’s benefits.

The Citi Prestige® Credit Card is ideal for frequent travelers who plan to take advantage of the card’s generous travel credits and luxurious benefits, like complimentary lounge access, premium concierge service and the fourth-night free perk. Citi Prestige® Credit Card holders earn 5x points at restaurants and for air travel purchases, 3x for hotel and cruise purchases, and 1x for all other purchases.

All of this does come with an expensive annual fee, but that’s to be expected from a premium travel rewards card.

We review the pros and cons of the Citi Prestige® Credit Card card, and highlight alternative premium travel credit card options.

What we like about the Citi Prestige® Credit Card

  • Rewards program

The Citi Prestige® Credit Card offers a generous rewards rate on dining and travel purchases. Cardholders earn 5x points at restaurants and for air travel purchases, 3x for hotel and cruise purchases, and 1x for all other purchases.

Points can be redeemed for travel, gift cards, Amazon.com and PayPal purchases, statement credits or cash. Points can also be transferred to 16 airline partners — including Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Emirates Skywards, JetBlue True Blue, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and more — at a rate of 1:1.

  • Travel credits

The Citi Prestige® Credit Card comes with valuable travel credits. Cardholders receive up to $250 per year to cover personal travel-related expenses, including those from airlines, hotels, car  rental agencies, travel agencies, tour operators, commuter transportation, cruise lines, road tolls and more. Additionally, Citi temporarily expanded this benefit to include supermarket and restaurant purchases from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2021.

Cardholders also receive a credit of up to $100 to cover the Global Entry or TSA Precheck application fee.

  • Fourth-night free benefit

Citi Prestige® Credit Card holders receive a complimentary fourth night at the hotel of your choice when you stay at least four consecutive nights in a room that you book and prepay for via Citi’s ThankYou® Rewards portal. This benefit can be used two times per year.

What to watch out for with the Citi Prestige® Credit Card

  • Annual fee

The Citi Prestige® Credit Card comes with a hefty annual fee of $495.

But that’s pretty typical for a premium travel credit card. In fact, if you take advantage of the perks offered by the Citi Prestige® Credit Card, such as the annual travel credit and the fourth-night free benefit, the card is easily worth its price tag.

  • Not available to new applicants

Unfortunately, Citi stopped accepting new applications for the Citi Prestige® Credit Card card as of July 2021. However, existing card members can continue using their card without interruption, and benefits remain the same for primary and authorized users.

That's $900 toward travel when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards® Plus, earn 5x points on flights and 10x points on hotels and car rentals through Chase Ultimate Rewards®.

Chase Sapphire Reserve® points are generally valued at 1 cent each, making the sign-up bonus worth $600. But if you redeem your points for travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards, they’ll be worth 50% more — boosting the value of the sign-up bonus to $900.
