Rebuilding Credit

3 Great Cards For Those Rebuilding Their Credit (With Rewards!)

It used to be difficult for those with less than good credit to get any credit card, much less a card offering attractive features like a valuable rewards program, or a card which didn't try to gouge you with high fees and interest rates. The good news is that has changed, and changed for the better. Card issuers are now truly competing to offer attractive cards in the fair/limited/improving credit space.

We've compiled a list of the best cards for those with fair credit, the cards which aren't charging ridiculous fees, and which do offer great rewards and incentives, even for those who need a little boost in order to get approved.

Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Rewards Credit Card Why we like it:  The QuicksilverOne offers 1.5% cash back (a better rate than most cards available to those with excellent credit) on all purchases, and yet is still accessible to those with a few dings on their credit. Just be aware that the Quicksilver One does charge a modest $39 annual fee, but with the 1.5% cash back program, you should be able to recover that fee and then make/save money using the card in pretty short order. Credit Required: Fair.

Milestone Gold MasterCard® Why we like it: You can get a quick pre-qualification for this card with no impact on your credit score. Unlike the typical card application process, which pings the credit agencies and might have an impact on your credit even if you are accepted (who can fathom the mysterious ways of the credit rating agencies?), the Milestone Gold checks your credit suitability "quietly" so that there will be no impact from the "pre-qualification" process, and the card will only make a full credit inquiry if you chose to apply AFTER you've been pre-qualified. It's like dipping your toe in the water to check the temperature before jumping in, and can be quite valuable for those looking to rebuild, who absolutely can't tolerate any setbacks whatsoever. Just know that this card does carry a fee, so make sure you are comfortable paying the $35-$99 fee before you make the actual application. A solid choice for those who don't want to risk dinging their credit before they get pre-qualified. Credit Required: Fair.
