    Disappointed

I have been a Charterone Customer for the last two years now. After paying off my mortgage I wanted to stay with Charterone to get a Home Equity Line of Credit. Jason Anderson and his team quoted me a great rate upfront, but then raised the rate by nearly two points after I had wasted a weekend getting all their required documentation together. A two point swing on a rate is unacceptable. My advice would be to find a bank that can be more honest with you on the front end so you don't waste your time gathering sensitive information. Horrible experience and I am taking my other accounts away entirely... Read More

    Charter

The charter people called me on the phone and the person i spoke to was trying to hustle me into a mortgage when i wanted a line of credit. I Told the gentleman specifically that i did not want to pay NY State taxes on a mortgage and with a HELOC i would not have too. It just works that way in NY. He insisted that what he was offering was not a mortgage when clearly it was finally in the 3rd attempt to make me understand what he was saying i was finally able to get this stubborn 'broker' that i was correct and he wasn't. He then said we can not offer you what you want and that was the end of the conversation. I felt as though he really didnt care what i was saying and when he finally did it was evident that they could not help with my situation. I would never do business with charter bank again as their 'bedside' manner was terrible. Sorry Charter thats just what happened. Good luck to you too,,... Read More

Got approved quickly and closed within weeks. Couldn't be happier. No closing costs, no appraisal fees - just quick access to a nice sized HELOC. Highly recommended!

Charter One doesn't care about your loan

    (22) (0)
We recently applied for a loan with them, and they messed up our application. After they fixed it, they spent more time bickering over what their policies are than listening to us about what we need. When asked to speak to the "credit manager" who makes the decision, you get nothing. Charter One doesn't care about you, or your loan. FIND A DIFFERENT BANK.

    Great Interactions

This request was simple and very straight forward with Charter One. Amy was professional and very helpful in all aspects of the loan process and afterwards. This was one of my best experiences with dealings for a loan be it mortgage, refinance, car loan, personal loan or in my new experience a Home Equity Line of Credit. This was great and would highly recommend Charter One for ease of informational needs and the whole overall process... Read More

The lack of an annual fee clinched my business. Note, however, that the disclosure document that got sent early in the process said there was an annual fee, a statement that contradicted the advertising. The final documents signed at closing included an addendum removing the annual fee. Either the disclosure document should be revised to state that there is no annual fee, or the fact that the final documents will include an addendum that will remove the fee should be made clear sooner...
