Partway through the process, after completing several documents, I was notified they are no longer in the business of providing home loans.

No pressure. Pleasant to work with.

While I ended up not refinancing my mortgage at all, this lender offered me some of the best options out of all the lenders who started contacting me when I set up my LendingTree.com account. I never felt pressured or rushed and I appreciate everything the mortgage banker I worked with, Matthew LaHue, did. He pointed out each scenario and ran the numbers for me on multiple programs. In the end, while I ended up not refinancing, he went above and beyond to point out something on the public records regarding my current mortgage. It was a mistake on the record, but it is something that he did not have to do. Thanks Matt!!... Read More

    Abandoned

We got an approval Last Friday and then were told they didn't have time to close on Tuesday because they left the home loan business. They dragged us for almost 3 months and then said it was our fault because we didn't get paper work in on time even though we gave them everything at the beginning of May. They also asked for certain paper work multiple times like they had lost parts of it. Completely disappointed and left with nothing I can do. Needless to say we're pulling our discover card. I will not be doing business with a company who treated us this way... Read More

    LEFT HANGING

I started the loan application process about 3-4 weeks ago and had spent many hours getting information together for our broker. We were in the last stages waiting for underwriter approval and just today I got an email and then a phone call from my broker at Discover. He was told in a corporate meeting this very morning that The Discover Group, (btw still listed on Lending Tree's site) that, effective immediately, they were no longer doing mortgage loans and that all applications who were in the pipeline but who had not already secured a commitment from Discover were being dropped from further consideration. I was dumbfounded and very angry about this action but am powerless to do anything but start the process all over again. No need to tell you to avoid The Discover Group, but those with Discover cards might want to think twice about doing business with them... Read More

    Horrible home buying experience

We got a great rate but this lender was our worst nightmare. Once we selected them there was very little movement until the week of closing. They put everything off until the last minute. We had a 9am closing and were still on the phone with them the night before at 10pm to ensure the title company got the loan paperwork. Our account manager also refused to take our calls completely until a few days before closing because she was busy funding other people's loans (her words not mine)... Read More

    Great Refinance Experience

They make this process as painless as possible. Just the required appraisal appointment and documentation signing appointment. Both were quick and efficient. Great folks to work with on the phone!

    Go with Discover!!

    (3) (1)
I refinanced from a 30 year to a 15 yr with Discover and the process was so smooth and easy. I initially chose quicken loans which pulled a fast one on me, and so i switched to Discover. Everything was done via the discover loans webpage. The banker Mr. Ezzat Faltas was awesome, he was very nice, clear and thorough in explaining all the details. The Appraiser was great and so was Kannchana Thay the Account Manager. Finally, Paula the notary was sent over to our house to sign all the paperwork. The loan was processed quickly and there were no hiccups along the way. Overall, a great team of people to work with, very friendly, easy to call and ask questions and they stayed on top of things. Thanks Ezzat, and Kannchana!... Read More

    great rate

    (1) (1)
Carlos Reyes provided updates along the way and reassurance that Discover was capable of a smooth closing. The rate I got was great and Carlos did an excellent job. There was one hitch with the amount of escrow required. Maybe, because Discover is national, they were not familiar with Texas practices regarding property taxes. I went ahead and paid more than expected, knowing I would recover the difference at the end of the tax year. Otherwise, it was a pleasant process and I saved money on my new home purchase, compared with several other lenders who competed for my business... Read More

    Overall a positive experience

    (2) (4)
Overall, this was a positive experience, but there were some frustrating and needlessly complicated moments. Brandon Tillman, Scott Watkins and Dwinnie Lee assisted me with the loan, and I can only praise their personal and always timely communication style. The rate was OK for my credit history, the ease of use of sharing documents was great, and communication as I said was easy - I don't know if these guys ever go home! That said, we had several hiccups which were very frustrating, and which may or may not have been under Discover's control: 1) we waited over two weeks for an appraisal, which was rescheduled three times (admittedly due to weather), and then came in so conservative as to almost sink the deal; 2) Discover was so inundated with loan applications in late January that it took a couple of weeks longer for them to get to my application than it should have - we almost had the interest lockset expire, and it got renewed at the last moment; 3) it took three notary visits and three separate closing signings to complete the process - the first notary did not know what he was doing, but he got sent to us twice; 4) my account manager had to leave work abruptly on a leave of absence literally days before the process was completed - but kudos to Discover to handle this with aplomb and give me another account manager which picked up where the other left off and completed the process smoothly. Overall, it took two months to the day to close this deal, instead of the 3-4 weeks initially quoted, but all is well that ends well. I would definitely give Discover another chance in the future, but be careful not to put all my eggs in only one basket... Read More
