Hats off to Finance of America !!

I am so impressed with Finance of America, especially our loan officer Tyler Howe from Princeton, NJ. From having previous bad experiences with MANY other banks and loan officers Tyler and Finance of America have exceptional ethics. Honest, responsive and very knowledgeable are a few words to describe them. If you want a stress free home buying process I suggest to work with them. They had met a two week deadline for us and had closed our deal within weeks of meeting. We are so grateful to have stumbled upon this company. Thanks for an amazing first time home buying experience!!... Read More

Great Deal If You Pay Attention to Details

BEST competitive rate and closing costs in the market for us, which was the highest priority for us. Not the most concierge service- to be expected with a no-frills economical service. But the folks we worked with did go the extra mile to ensure that we closed with the great deal that we expected from the initial quote. That superseded everything else. But for full disclosure: there were hassles related to lost paperwork a few times, poor communication about not finding an appraiser at the aggressive price quoted to us, fees snuck into the the paperwork that increased costs from the initial quote, and again efforts to bury the fees in a different way after I objected. But it's like anything in America these days: if you are alert, pay attention to the details, and politely and firmly stick to your guns on what is right, they come through in the end. In my case, the two folks who handled most of our paperwork stepped up and made the overall experience good in spite of the back-office designed to maximize profit (i.e. squeeze unexpected dollars out of you). To be fair, I expect this to be true of any large mortgage company. So in the end, they are a company trying to make money (nothing inherently wrong with that), and they did advertise and deliver the best deal in the market... Read More

    Thank God to be done

When first purchasing my home, Finance of America took over three months to close. Reason being, they suck at communication. Each time we had our to do list completed, more items were added. Because closing took place in winter, FOA required funds to be put into escrow for repairs to be made in spring. Repairs were made promptly and in full according to contract, but surprise surprise, more items were added. I took issue up with branch manager who didn't care to help and outright refused to give me the name of his supervisor. I then looked up upper management and went through a Vice President. But still was not returned my funds. I finally received the money back 8 months after the initial repairs as listed in the contract were completed, and over two months after refinancing with a different company. I have never experienced so much stress in any home purchase as I did with FOA. I advise anyone looking for a mortgage to look elsewhere. ... Read More

    Very seamless process

I was very happy with this company. They were very easy to work with and processed our loan with no problems. I honestly don't have anything much to say because the process was so seamless I just signed the original docs then the closing docs, and that was it. No issues whatsoever. I would recommend this company to anyone.

    Awful Experience!

When shopping for a refinance I trusted Bankrate lender eRates mortgage (aka Finance of America Mortgage LLC) due to their good reputation. However, my experience was awful. My Advice: keep looking. Finance of America Mortgage LLC may quote the best rate and lowest fees upfront. However if you are treated the way I was you may end up paying much more in the end. First, I am a regular employee with excellent credit and no special circumstances looking for a simple refinance. After taking our application Nathan dropped contact with us and deferred completely to "Processor" Paula. We responded to all requests for information very quickly. In spite of this, Paula did not spend the time and effort to get our loan to closing in a timely manner. We had to frequently call and email both Paula and Nathan in order to make any progress, and it was apparent that very little effort was being made to move our loan along. Nathan was not engaged in the process and I specifically asked him to get involved several times without any result. According to his explanation (after the fact) he is responsible for new business and not for following up on loans in process. It appears that at some point in the process everyone involved at eRates realized that due to their delays our loan was not going to close before the rate lock expired. At that point we were ignored and our loan was worked on only when we repeatedly called and emailed. Each time excuses were made as to why the items were not being worked. After our loan was finally ready to close (for the third time), Paula informed us that our rate lock was expired and had to be re-locked. Almost a week later and after phone calls and emails to eRates asking for help, Nathan finally replied with new rates and fees that were significantly higher than our original quote. The rates were actually higher than the current rate on our mortgage! No phone call, no apology for botching our chance to refinance at a lower rate, just pushing us to refinance at a higher rate and cost or go away. The worst part of our experience was what happened after things went sideways. After asking repeatedly for a supervisor or someone else that could help, we were finally referred to Branch Manager Trevor Banville and I emailed him and asked him to call me to discuss our experience. After 4 business days Trevor returned my second email and essentially said that he was not interested in hearing me out and would not be calling me, our situation was "reviewed by management" and that "a final decision has been made", whatever that means. I am extremely disappointed with several things. First, I don't believe that we received the service and communication that we deserved. Second, the way that we were led into trusting Finance of America Mortgage to get us a great rate and low fees, only to have them allow our rate lock to expire and then push higher rates and fees on us. Third, the lack of concern or willingness to even hear our feedback on our experience... Read More

    Worst Experience

This was the worst experience - I have dealt with several lenders for various properties over the years and found Tony and his assistants very ignorant on the financing of a jumbo home refinance. They lost paperwork and had me resend the same documents several times over a 5 month period. They did not understand simple things such as owner's distribution on a business. At the end of a long 5 month period, they could not get their act together, so I had to walk away from the table. BEWARE of this company!!... Read More

    Stay away from Marco

While all of the reviews for the company thus far are great, I had a bad experience with Marco in the West Covina location today. His responses to my emails were short and vague. When I was finally able to get him on the phone to discuss what I was looking for he practically pushed me into the arms of another lender by telling me the fees were the same based on only one of the programs I inquired about. He seemed uninterested in selling loans today. I explained to him that I was looking for a lender to provide me with information with all of the programs that they could possibly offer after reviewing the docs necessary to pre qualify me but that after my interaction with him it was clear that Finance of America was not the lender for me. I'm not surprised that his name is not listed in LO's for the company. Maybe they know what they are dealing with... Read More

    Great Job!

My loan officer was Jon Laguardia. He was personally invested every step of the way. He made me feel like he was actually excited for us to get our home. This was displayed not only by his words but actions. He responded immediately to emails, phone calls, or text. And when it looked like our seller gave us the opportunity to close early finance America did everything they could to make it happen . And they did! Furthermore, we closed with a very low interest rate and reasonable closing costs. We are very happy and would recommend finance America and specifically Jon Laguardia to anyone shopping around!!!...
