Horrible- Denied for for VA loan with a 668 FICO

    (0) (0)
I'm a first time home buyer using the Va home loan and I've been banking with ussa for 6 years now, so naturally I called them first and tried to get pre approval for a home loan. Here is a little basic info for people to compare to. 27 years old, current job full time for 14 months at fortune 150 company. Base salary 42K already passed this by 2k in August gross income was at 44k for the year when I applied on Aug 29th. FICO score 668, 670,720 with no prior foreclosure or bankruptcies. 10k in the bank between checking, savings, and brokerage. 13k in my 401k. My back end DTI ratio was 37. I also told them my mom was gifting me 10k to cover any closing cost. They denied me for {Delinquent past or present credit obligations with others} so I was quite discouraged since I my lowest FICO is 668. But after I called NASB and after 15 minutes on the phone I was pre-approved for 170k and then I went to a local bank the same week and was pre-approved for 185k. Bottom line is after reading reviews from other people they seem to be overly conservative with their loans. I will be switching to another bank at the end of the year... Read More

Smooth from start to finish, No Issues

First time home buyer using a VA 0% down loan. Great communication with the loan originator and loan processor. Everything went smooth from pre-approval to closing. We did have to extend closing a week due to a title issue but nothing to do with USAA. I was a little worried after reading some bad reviews but I was very impressed on how well everything came together working with a lender out of state over email and phone.... Read More

    Never again!

USAA mortgage went down the hill in the past few years. My first experience with them a few years ago was great and I went with them again when buying a second home refusing to believe all the negative reviews. Well, turns out the reviews were right – the mortgage process has become overly complicated and lengthy even for a savvy buyer. Had to push them every step of the way, they did not care about customer service or meeting any deadlines. The closing was postponed because of their fault. Never again I am going with USAA and advising all of my friends not to do it. If you have other services with USAA such as insurance, banking etc (like I do) – don’t be fooled, their mortgage processing is done by an entirely different department, which was bought from another bad bank a few years ago – that explains the total change in service... Excellent Lender

USAA is an excellent lender for Military Members and Veterans. They were fast to respond and very professional. I chose them over the other lenders because of their great reputation for loans and insurance. They have not disappointed me.

    Run away

I used USAA to process my VA loan for my first home. This was a terrible experience despite my personal excellent credit and buying half the house I could afford. My agent, Helga, took days to return calls, was unprofessional, could not answer questions, lost documents which I had to send and resend and then would bump me in priority because of it. My closing started 45 days out and ended up being pushed another month. If you value your sanity and want professional service avoid USAA mortgage services. I could not even get any help from the supervisors I spoke to... Read More

    Poorly staffed!

They were unable to process a VA loan for me because they didn't know how to take a home out of a trust and return it to the trust after the closing. They took days to return calls or emails and didn't seem to know the requirements of a VA refinance.
