Betters error postponed my closing date!!

At first Better mortgage was great, had great communication. But 3 DAYS before my closing date they didn’t send me the initial closing disclosure as I was told in the morning that I would have it by the end of the day (this document is required to be completed 3 days before you can close) well I didn’t get the documents as promised, instead I got a task at 6pm saying that they needed me to upload a copy of the down payment check and a receipt from the title company that it was received! The title company had no idea what they were talking about, it’s done at the time of signing the paperwork on my closing date. It took me 10 emails, 5 portal messaged, 2 phone calls from 6pm on 6/1/21 and didn’t hear from someone until 1:20pm on 6/2/21, apologizing to me that this information wasn’t given to me to get everything in order in time. I missed a days worth of work to scramble to get the cashiers check, talk the title company into helping me with this and send everything in. Then I was informed that I COULDNT close now on 6/4/21 because the initial closing disclosure has to be 3 days before closing… so now I am unable to close until at least Monday 6/7/21!!! I was talking to my mortgage team from Better just that morning about the down payment and it was never informed to me that this was needed to meet the deadline. I had a uhaul rented, time off work scheduled and a baby sitter lined up but now have to change everything! All I got was sorry, it was our fault and that’s it! I’m livid!!!!

Tried to add extra fees for extending rate lock after they delayed closing

Good rate and easy application process, however, when the appraisal didn't come back on time they said they would take care of it but then we ended up with $1200 extra fees. They ended up covering fees but only because I called them out on it.... so buyer beware.

Not Covid friendly and other issues

I have a heightened risk of COVID but had to have an in home inspection and a in person closing. For my last refinance in 2015, the closing was done electronically. They also charge $50 for e-signing, which is really high since the last company didn't charge anything. Finally, their title fees are very high at $1,025. Also, if you plan to shop for your own services, keep in mind that you inform the staff early or else it will delay the loan and there are no disclosures regarding that. Finally, they require an escrow account even if you send them records showing everything has already been paid or the points you pay go up.
