The rate that I was offered through lending tree was significantly less that 1stMidwest

The lendingtree website showed a rate and when I applied through First Midwest, it came back with a rate that was 2% higher. I asked Jessica at First Midwest why the rate was so different and she informed me that "Lending tree does a soft pull of your credit and they give you rates based on that. The rate they assumed you to be at was 800 or above FICO score which is why that rate came up for us. That rate is available, however, your credit has to be at 800 or above." My credit score is 767 and Lendingtree has access to that credit score. Through Lendingtree, I selected "Very Good = between 740-799" for my credit score. Why would they "assume" that my credit score is 800 especially since only 20% of Americans have a credit score of 800 or above.

Misleading Rate and Poor Customer Service

I don't typically write reviews, but I felt that this would be one that I needed to write. I was looking for a debt consolidation loan and received several offers from Midwest at incredibly loan APRs here on Lending Tree. Obviously thinking that I was about to get a great deal, I very quickly applied for a loan. The first red flag was the fact that the loan approval wasn't instant. With the other loan companies that I have used in the past for personal loans, it's never taken more than a couple of minutes to receive a decision. At Midwest, I was informed they were working on it, and to expect a phone call later in the day with their decision. That afternoon I got a phone call informing me that my application had been denied, even though the referral from Lending Tree made it seem like the chances of approval were high. I have a 750 credit score, so I asked why I had been denied. They explained it was because my debt-to-income ratio was too high; I was applying for a debt consolidation loan after all. So even though they advertised an amazing rate on Lending Tree, I ended up with no loan and a hard pull on my credit.
Several months later I had paid off several thousand dollars of the debt and decided to go ahead and try to get the remainder refinanced at a lower rate. Once again, Midwest was offering a rate that I couldn't overlook. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and try again. This time they agreed to offer me a loan, but at a term and interest rate higher than that of what I was already paying; it was as if the advertised rate on Lending Tree never truly existed. So once again I have another strike on my credit report, without the benefit of the loan to go with it. I would highly caution anyone against applying for a Midwest loan; after two very misleading and fruitless interactions with First Midwest Bank, I can very assuredly say that I am deeply dissatisfied with the institution.
