I submitted information for the pre-approval process and received a pre-qualified offer with a rate of 6.99% on the LendingTree website. When I clicked the “Continue” button and it redirected me to the LightStream website, the lowest available rate before I typed anything was 8.99%. It looked a bit shady, so I aborted the process. I’m sure I’ll still receive hundreds of emails and regular mail with offers for the next several months though....

More harm than good
The offers presented by Lending Tree are very different than the offers eventually made by LightStream as a lender. I feel that my personal information has been collected and shared as a product, rather than an actual service being provided to me by this lender. Ultimately more harm to my credit was done than good due to the application process with LightStream.
