LendingTree editorial guidelines and standards

LendingTree’s editorial team includes certified financial counselors, licensed insurance agents and experienced personal finance journalists. Collectively, our in-house writers and editors bring more than 120 years of combined professional experience, including more than 70 years dedicated specifically to personal finance, insurance, consumer lending and financial education.

We produce clear, accurate and data-informed content to help you compare and choose financial products. Our goal is to combine deep financial expertise with LendingTree’s real marketplace data so you can make confident financial decisions.

Editorial independence

Our editorial team operates independently from the teams that manage lender partnerships and revenue relationships. Lenders do not edit or approve our editorial content, rankings or recommendations.

While we may receive compensation from some companies featured on our site, compensation does not determine how products are reviewed, ranked or recommended. Any paid placements are labeled as such.

We cover financial products from both partners and non-partners. Not all companies or financial products available in the LendingTree marketplace are included in our editorial content.

If factual inaccuracies are brought to our attention — including by lenders, readers or other sources — our editorial team reviews the information and updates content when appropriate.

Transparency and sourcing

We reference and disclose reputable sources within our content whenever possible.

We present both benefits and drawbacks of financial products to provide balanced coverage.

When we make significant changes or updates to a page, we revise the public-facing “updated” date accordingly.

Accuracy and verification

All content is fact-checked and reviewed for accuracy before publication.

We verify rates, fees, eligibility requirements and other product details through lender websites and disclosures, other official sources and from direct communication with company representatives.

We maintain content to reflect changes in rates, lender terms, regulations and market conditions. Articles that include rate comparisons and “best” recommendations are reviewed frequently and updated as offers and terms change.

Use of proprietary data and research

In addition to public sources, LendingTree analyzes anonymized data from millions of loan requests, lender offers and consumer interactions across our marketplace each year.

Because we connect borrowers with a wide network of lenders, we have a unique view into rate trends, approval patterns and borrower behavior across credit profiles and loan types. We use this proprietary data to inform our editorial analysis and consumer research.

When we publish studies or reference LendingTree data, we clearly explain the methodology, time frame and sample used. All data is aggregated and anonymized to protect consumer privacy.
