That said, this card charges an annual fee of $0 intro for first year; $95 after that.  It also doesn’t offer a 0% intro APR period, so if your business is looking to finance a big purchase interest-free for several months, you’ll want to consider other options.

What we like

  • Flat-rate cashback rewards

The Capital One Spark Cash for Business offers 2% cash back for your business on every purchase, everywhere. This is a great flat rate for a small business credit card. Some competing business cards offer rewards in specific categories, such as travel or office supplies, but a flat-rate card is a better choice for when your spending doesn’t neatly fit into a few specific categories.

Cash back earned with this card can be redeemed as a statement credit or a check. You can set up automatic redemption either at a set time each calendar year or when a specific threshold ($25, $50, $100 or $200) has been reached. Other redemption options include statement credit and gift cards. However, rates for these redemption options may vary and are subject to change without notice.

  • Annual fee waived the first year

The annual fee for this card is $0 intro for first year; $95 after that. That means all the cash back you earn the first year is net money in the bank (as long as you don’t incur interest charges or other fees). And if you spend $4,750 a year on this card after the first year, you’ll earn enough cash back to recoup the amount of the annual fee.

  • Foreign transaction fee: None

If your business requires travel outside the United States, you can take this card with you without worrying about an extra fee being tacked onto each purchase.

  • Lost luggage reimbursement

Receive up to $3,000 in reimbursement if your checked or carry-on luggage is lost or stolen when your ticket is charged to your card.

What to look out for

  • Annual fee after the first year

The Capital One Spark Cash for Business charges an annual fee of $0 intro for first year; $95 after that. While $95 a year isn’t that expensive, considering that business card annual fees can exceed $500, you may prefer a no-annual-fee card for your business.

  • No intro APR period

There’s much to like about the Capital One Spark Cash for Business, but unfortunately, it does not offer an intro APR period. If you need time to pay off a big purchase, consider a card such as the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card, which offers intro 0% on purchases for 12 months from date of account opening. After, a 13.24% - 19.24% variable APR applies.

Alternative business card

Compare it to the Capital One Spark Cash Select for Business

To recoup the Capital One Spark Cash for Business‘s annual fee ($0 intro for first year; $95 after that), your business needs to spend at least $4,750 a year. If that doesn’t sound like a good fit, a better business card for your needs with similar features might be the Capital One Spark Cash Select for Business.

While the Capital One Spark Cash Select for Business earns a lower cashback rate – 1.5% cash back on every purchase – it comes with a $0 annual fee. It also offers an intro APR of 0% on purchases for 9 months. After, a 13.99% - 23.99% (variable) APR applies. This can be helpful if you’re planning a big purchase, but need a few months to pay it off. The Capital One Spark Cash for Business does not offer an intro APR period.

If you’re debating which card is right for your business, the tipping point is right around a spend of $20,000 per year. At that point, you’ll earn enough with a 2% cashback card to recoup a $95 annual fee and beat out a 1.5% cashback card’s earnings. But if you spend less than that each year, you’ll come out ahead with a 1.5% cashback card that charges no annual fee. Keep in mind if you issue your employees cards, you’ll earn cash back on their spending too.
