How LendingTree Rates Credit Cards?
Our experts rate credit cards based on several factors including card benefits, bonus offers and independent research. Credit card issuers do not influence or have a say in our card ratings. Read our credit card methodology here. The Capital One Spark Miles for Business provides an easy way to earn rewards on your business purchases for a reasonable annual fee ($0 intro for first year; $95 after that), making it a worthwhile choice for business owners.
You’ll get flat-rate unlimited rewards on all purchases. It’s also a great choice for business travel because you’ll get up to a $120 credit for Global Entry/TSA PreCheck®, and the card comes with no foreign transaction fees. Plus, miles could be worth even more when transferred to one of 15+ Capital One loyalty programs.
The card doesn’t offer an intro APR if you’re planning to finance a large business purchase, and it lacks a major U.S. airline transfer partner. However, for straightforward earning and redeeming, this flat-rate business rewards card from Capital One is hard to beat.

Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card:This card is our top overall pick for the best business credit card. It has a much higher sign-up bonus, though it requires more spending to earn. You can also earn a higher rewards rate on common business expenses, up to $150,000 per year. Plus, you’ll earn Chase Ultimate Rewards®, which are extremely valuable and flexible. The card has a comparable $95 annual fee, but it isn’t waived the first year. It also includes valuable travel and purchase protections, such as primary rental car insurance, cellphone protection and trip cancellation/interruption insurance.
Capital One Venture X Business: This card offers one of the best values for a business card. While it does have a $395 annual fee (see rates & fees), it lets you earn a highly valuable sign-up bonus and 2 Miles per dollar on every purchase; 5 Miles per dollar on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One's travel booking site; 10 Miles per dollar on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One's travel booking site. It’s a better card for travel than the Capital One Spark Miles for Business because you’ll get luxury travel perks like Priority Pass lounge access and up to a $300 annual travel credit for bookings through Capital One’s travel booking site.
Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business: This card is similar to the Capital One Spark Miles for Business but has a $0 annual fee and a lower flat-rate cash back program, earning 1.5 Miles per $1 on every purchase. You can earn a comparable sign-up bonus and the ability to transfer miles to Capital One partners. While it lacks a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® credit, it includes MasterRental® Insurance and roadside assistance.
High flat earning rate on all purchases
The Capital One Spark Miles for Business has a simple flat-rate rewards program. You’ll earn 2 Miles per $1 on every purchase, everywhere; 5 Miles per dollar on hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One's travel booking site.
This is better than many business credit cards, because the amount you can earn at the higher rate is unlimited. Cards such as The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card and Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card have a cap on how much you can earn at the higher rate.
Additionally, with no categories to keep track of, the Capital One Spark Miles for Business is a great option for business owners who prefer low maintenance when managing credit card rewards.
Earn a valuable sign-up bonus
You can earn a one-time bonus of 50,000 miles – equal to $500 in travel – once you spend $4,500 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening. This is a valuable sign-up bonus compared to similar business travel cards. You may even get more value by transferring your miles to a partner loyalty program.
Some business cards offer even higher bonuses, like the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, which lets you earn 90,000 bonus points after you spend $8,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
Transfer miles to 15+ loyalty programs
Capital One allows you to transfer miles from your Capital One Spark Miles for Business to over 15 hotel and loyalty programs, typically at a 1:1 ratio. While miles are generally worth 1 cent per point when redeemed for travel statement credits, you can often get greater value by transferring them to an airline or hotel partner. Transfer partners include:
Up to $120 credit for Global Entry/TSA PreCheck®
The Capital One Spark Miles for Business comes with an application fee credit (up to $120 every four years) for TSA PreCheck® or Global Entry. TSA PreCheck® allows you to expedite security lanes at U.S. airports, while Global Entry offers the same benefits and quicker customs screenings when returning to the U.S. from abroad. This is an excellent benefit for frequent business travelers and is not commonly offered by many business travel credit cards.
Foreign transaction fees: None
If you plan to use your card outside of the U.S., the Capital One Spark Miles for Business is a good choice because it doesn’t have foreign transaction fees (see rates & fees). Some similar cards, such as the The American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card (see rates & fees), charge a foreign transaction fee of 2.7% of each transaction after conversion to US dollars.
Annual fee after the first year
Though the Capital One Spark Miles for Business‘s annual fee is fairly modest ($0 intro for first year; $95 after that), you’ll have to calculate it into the cost of carrying the card (see rates & fees).
Between the sign-up bonus and Global Entry/TSA PreCheck® credit, this card offers plenty of value for the first year — but its value after that depends on how you use it. Assuming you redeem your miles for travel statement credits worth $0.01 each, you’ll need to spend at least $4,750 each year to justify the annual fee.
No major U.S. airline transfer partners
Although Capital One partners with several airlines, it doesn’t partner with a major U.S. airline. Not having direct domestic partners makes using your miles more challenging. For a better list of travel partners, check out the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, which includes JetBlue TrueBlue, Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards® and United MileagePlus® as travel partners.
Minimal travel perks
While the Capital One Spark Miles for Business is a business travel credit card with an annual fee (see rates & fees), it falls short on additional travel perks compared to similar cards. Outside of the credit of up to $120 for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck®, there aren’t many other benefits. In comparison, cards like the Capital One Venture X Business provide a wide range of travel perks, such as airport lounge access, an anniversary bonus and an annual travel credit. Alternatively, the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card offers more extensive travel and purchase protections, including trip cancellation and interruption insurance, as well as primary rental car insurance.
The Capital One Spark Miles for Business is an excellent choice for business owners who want to earn flat-rate, flexible rewards for business spending. The card isn’t loaded with the travel benefits you may find with premium business cards, but it offers better perks than comparable business cards.
However, if you want to avoid paying an annual fee (see rates & fees), or if you’re looking for a card with more bonus category options, you should check out another business credit card like the Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card.
