Visa and Mastercard are credit card processing networks that don’t issue their own credit cards. Instead, they facilitate purchases for credit card issuers like banks and credit unions and offer benefits to cardholders.
This makes Visa and Mastercard different from the two other major credit card networks that do issue their own cards: American Express and Discover.
Visa and Mastercard are also the most widely accepted credit cards in the world. However, there are some major differences when it comes to the benefits each card type offers.
For example, both types of cards come in several different tiers, but Visa usually has more robust benefits in its top-tier cards, including airport lounge access, annual travel credits and travel insurance.
