What does Safety homeowners insurance cover?
Safety offers a combination of basic homeowners insurance coverage and useful extras. The basics include coverage for:
-
Your dwelling and other structures on your property
Dwelling coverage pays to repair or rebuild the structure of your home if a fire, hail or other event damages or destroys it.
-
Your personal property
Covers your belongings for theft or damage from a covered cause.
-
Loss of use
Helps cover temporary housing and other living expenses while your home is being repaired or rebuilt.
-
Personal liability
Personal liability covers injuries to other people and damage to their property.
-
Guest medical expenses
Covers medical treatment for a guest injured on your property, regardless of fault.
As is common for home insurance, Safety’s standard policies don’t cover floods. You need a separate flood insurance policy for protection from this risk.
Safety also offers a few extra coverages on their own. These include service line coverage
Most of its other protections are grouped together in a package of coverages. You have to upgrade to its Supreme Plus package to get coverage for water and sewer backups.
Other coverages in a Supreme Plus package include:
-
Extended building cost coverage
Provides extra coverage if the cost of rebuilding your home exceeds your dwelling limit.
-
All risks coverage for your belongings
Standard policies cover your belongings for risks named in your policy, including fire and theft. This add-on expands this to any risk not specifically excluded by your policy. This means more coverage.
-
Personal injury liability
Covers legal costs that can arise if you’re accused of libel, slander, wrongful eviction or other non-bodily injury to someone else.
Most of the coverages in a Supreme Plus package are good to have. However, you have to pay for all of them, even if you only need two or three.

How we evaluated Safety and other insurance companies
Our team of insurance experts rated insurance companies based on several categories. These categories include average rates, discounts, coverage options, third-party customer service ratings and app/website experience. We weighted these categories based on what customers value in an insurance company.
For third-party customer service ratings, we included Complaint Index scores from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and financial strength ratings from AM Best. NAIC Complaint Index scores are used to determine how satisfied customers are with their claims, while financial strength ratings from AM Best reflect the ability to pay out claims.
