Overall, Geico offers better customer support than Progressive. Geico has higher overall satisfaction scores than Progressive, according to J.D. Power’s 2023 Auto Insurance Study. J.D. Power surveys customers on the billing process, policy information, claims, interaction, policy offerings and price of insurance companies.

Both Progressive and Geico have below-average customer service ratings from the NAIC, which measures complaints by comparing the amount of complaints a company receives to the size of the company in the U.S. market.

Progressive has a variety of optional coverages, some of which are uncommon. Progressive’s custom parts and equipment value coverage helps to repair or replace custom parts and equipment usually up to $5,000.

Progressive also offers vehicle protection coverage, which protects a newer car’s major systems if damaged due to a non-accident incident. This coverage also covers minor dents, as well as lost, stolen or damaged keys.

While Geico offers all the standard car insurance coverages you would expect, it has only a few optional coverages. Roadside assistance and mechanical breakdown insurance are two examples.

LendingTree obtains rates from insurance company filings reported to Quadrant Information Services. Rates shown in this article are based on an analysis of car insurance quotes for sample drivers. Your rates may vary.

Unless stated otherwise, we used thousands of car insurance quotes from across the U.S. for a 30-year-old man with good credit and no tickets, accidents or DUIs driving a 2015 Honda Civic EX.

For full-coverage policies, the following coverage limits were used:

  • Bodily injury liability: $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident
  • Property damage liability: $25,000
  • Uninsured motorist: $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident, where required by law
  • Personal injury protection: Minimum limits, where required by law
  • Collision: $500 deductible
  • Comprehensive: $500 deductible
